South East charities urged to apply for airport funding – Gatwick Airport Community Trust

Gatwick Airport is urging charities and local organisations in East and West Sussex, Surrey and Kent to apply for funding from its community trust.

Applications are now being welcomed and about £250,000 is being made available, with the airport’s Community Trust prioritising groups that focus on areas including youth development, the arts, sports facilities, the environment and community infrastructure.

The deadline for groups to apply to the trust, which has been running for more than 20 years, is 31 March.

In the last round of funding, the trust provided support for more than 100 charities and groups.

The Gatwick Airport Community Trust was set up in 2002 as part of legal arrangements between West Sussex County Council, Crawley Borough Council and London Gatwick following the publication of the airport’s sustainable development strategy.

It aims to make a positive contribution to the quality of life of the communities affected by the airport and its growth.

In August, a school in Kent, a homeless charity in West Sussex and a food distributor in Surrey were among the organisations to receive funding.
