Consultation on proposed parking and traffic changes around Keymer Road

Hassocks Parish Council is inviting residents, businesses and road users to comment on three proposed parking and traffic changes in the Keymer Road area. The proposals aim to improve pedestrian access, traffic flow and safety, and councillors want local views in order to support or amend a proposed Traffic Regulation Order application.

1. Add a no loading/no stopping sign protecting the drop kerb crossing outside Sussex Grocers

2. Create a double yellow line across the entrance to John Saxby Place

3. Introduce double yellow lines on Keymer Road, between Adastra Park and Clerks Acre, and convert the single yellow line on the south side into a double yellow.

First, councillors are proposing a no loading/no stopping sign to protect the dropped kerb crossing outside Sussex Grocers. The crossing was installed to improve access to local shops, but vehicles parking across it can make it difficult to use, particularly for older and disabled residents and people with pushchairs.

Second, councillors are proposing to replace the small section of single yellow line across the entrance to John Saxby Place with double yellow lines. Vehicles have sometimes parked across the entrance, blocking residents from entering and leaving their homes.

Third, councillors are proposing double yellow lines on a short section of Keymer Road between Adastra Park and Clerks Acre, with measures to discourage vehicles from moving to the opposite side of the road – i.e. converting the single yellow line between number 72 and the Sussex Grocers into a double yellow. This section can become a choke point when parked vehicles narrow the road. The proposed restriction is intended to improve visibility, reduce conflict between vehicles and help traffic flow more smoothly.

Residents are encouraged to complete the consultation online wherever possible. Paper copies will also be available from the Parish Centre office.

The Council is asking people to say whether they support or oppose each proposal, and to explain how the changes could affect pedestrian safety, road user safety, access, parking and local businesses. Feedback will help shape the final application, including any changes needed in response to local concerns.

Councillors are keen to hear from as many people as possible, including nearby residents, businesses, pedestrians, drivers, cyclists and anyone who uses Keymer Road regularly.
