Hassocks with its railway station on the London to Brighton line, and convenient road links, is a popular destination and an ideal base for visitors wishing to access the South Downs area and the National Park.
The South Downs was designated as a National Park in April 2011. It stretches from Lewes, in the east to Winchester, in the west and covers approximately 1,627 square kilometres.
The Park provides great opportunities for walkers to enjoy the Downland scenery and the many picturesque villages. It includes the 160-kilometre footpath, .
The area is also very popular with cyclists, horse riders and para/hang gliders who make full use of the thermals and sea breezes rising over the hills and cliffs.

The South Downs National Park Authority (SDNPA) is the organisation with responsibility for promoting the purposes of the National Park and the interests of the people who live and work within it. The SDNPA headquarters is in Midhurst, West Sussex.
