Parish Council to take over modernisation and maintenance of Adastra Park Toilets

Hassocks Parish Council has approved plans to take responsibility for refurbishing and then maintaining the public toilets in Adastra Park, helping to improve facilities in one of the village’s most valued community spaces.

Last week’s (Tuesday 8 September) meeting of the full council agreed to take over management of the toilets from Mid Sussex District Council. This will allow us to move forward with a major refurbishment designed to make the toilet block more accessible and more reliable. The renewed toilet block should be less vulnerable to the vandalism which has sadly been a regular cause of closures, over which the Parish Council has previously had little control.

We know the Adastra Park toilets have been one of the facilities residents ask about most often. The current block has reached the point where modernisation is needed, and closures caused by damage have too often let down park users. By taking direct responsibility, we will be better placed to provide facilities that match the importance of Adastra Park to Hassocks.

Funding the changes

The Council is confident of securing Section 106 funding to cover the capital cost of the refurbishment. This funding comes from developer contributions and is used to support local infrastructure linked to new development. Once the Parish Council takes on responsibility for the toilets, we will also need to fund their ongoing maintenance.

The toilets will be closed for these works (expected to take around 12 weeks) between January and April 2027.
